N Building by Teradadesign Architects and Qosmo, Inc

N Building, by Teradadesign Architects and Qosmo, Inc, is a commercial structure located near Tachikawa station. This building uses QR code as its facade, which, if read by using a mobile device, will take customers to a website which contains updated information of the shop. It is thought to be a better solution than the typical attachment of commercial signs and billboards to a building which undermines the structures’ identity.

A QR Code is a matrix code (or two-dimensional bar code) created by Japanese corporation Denso-Wave in 1994. The “QR” is derived from “Quick Response”, as the creator intended the code to allow its contents to be decoded at high speed. QR Codes are common in Japan, where they are currently the most popular type of two dimensional codes. Moreover, most current Japanese mobile phones can read this code with their camera. [Wikipedia]

Information from the Architect:

Our goal is to provide an incentive to visit the space and a virtual connection to space without necessarily being present.” – Qosmo
