“Eating is no longer a pure experience of smell and taste but rather an effective agency to communicate and engage, an indication of cultural values, lifestyle, artisanship, criticism, aspirations and imagination this present day.

While no single aspect of food and the associated can epitomise the new food culture, EAT ME takes out a slice of modern life where food has been taken as the medium to promote social interactions and ginger up our every day. In addition to the highly competitive realm of food packaging design, the book also features a symphony of recent art creations, social events, identity projects, restaurant designs, culinary implements and products inspired by food. The substantial showcase is complemented by fascinating insights in their forewords and case studies given by experts, entrepreneurs and practitioners, each distinct with regards to their experience in product, packaging, image-making, branding and spatial design.”

“So I carve landscapes out of books and I paint Romantic landscapes. Mountains of disused knowledge return to what they really are: mountains. They erode a bit more and they become hills. Then they flatten and become fields where apparently nothing is happening. Piles of obsolete encyclopedias return to that which does not need to say anything, that which simply IS. Fogs and clouds erase everything we know, everything we think we are.”

Page One, a Singapore-based publisher, is looking for the most inspiring designs for their upcoming project, Hey! Mr. Postman. Here is the information from the publisher:

CALL FOR ENTRIES
Hey! Mr. Postman

With the popularity of Facebook and the proliferation of hi-tech gadgetry comes an unexpected phenomenon, the embracing of sentiment sent by snail mail. Today’s creatives are rediscovering the joys of the traditional greeting card to convey messages of gratitude or condolence, deliver well-wishes, invitations or announcements, or quite simply to say hello. But it is not a step backward. Reinventing its form in unexpected ways, artists and designers take fresh, often playful approaches to greeting cards resulting in wildly original work.

International art and design book publisher Page One is keeping an eye out for the most inspiring designs for their upcoming project, Hey! Mr. Postman (working title). Displaying unusual techniques, curious material and clever concepts, the work selected will belong in a league of their own, inspiring the community in the graphic arts and thrilling lovers of the ingenious and the imaginative.

The full-colour title will be published and distributed worldwide in the first quarter of 2011.

Interested participants can download the submission form at www.pageonegroup.com.

Submissions deadline is Monday, 31 May 2010.
